Training

Looking for Proper Training - Delivered Regularly and Professionally?

March, 2026

Our Club is committed to delivering structured, high-quality training that supports safe, confident progression for all members.

Over the past 30 months, we have welcomed some 90 new members, with the majority joining as probationers. These include complete beginners, shooters wishing to explore new disciplines, individuals seeking to obtain a Firearms Certificate for target shooting, stalking, or vermin control, and experienced shooters looking to refine and develop their skills.

Structured, Regular Probationary Training

We are proud to offer regular, formal instruction in the safe handling and use of firearms. Our probationary courses are designed to provide a clear foundation in safety, discipline, and competence.

Each course consists of:

  • A full day of structured instruction based on the NRA Probationers' Manual
  • Training delivered by our NRA-trained and qualified Club Instructor
  • A practical shooting accuracy assessment

Following successful completion, if requested, candidates are awarded a Shooter Certification Card issued via the Club by the National Rifle Association. This certification enables Full Members to shoot on Ministry of Defence ranges, with target screens at distances from 100 metres to 1,200 yards.

To date, almost 70 members have successfully completed the course and achieved certification.

Purpose of the NRA Probationers' Course

The NRA Probationers' Course is designed to:

  • Develop safe and responsible firearm handling
  • Establish a clear understanding of range procedures and safety protocols
  • Ensure legal and practical competence in target shooting
  • Build confidence through structured instruction and supervised practice
  • Provide a recognised pathway toward certified range use and full membership progression

The course exists to transform new members into safe, competent, and legally compliant shooters, enabling them to participate confidently in target shooting while maintaining the highest standards of safety and responsibility.

A Clear Path to Full Membership

Probationary Members typically progress to Full Membership after six supervised shoots, normally completed within six months. During this period, safe firearm handling and competent practice are demonstrated under supervision by our Training Officer, Range Safety Officers, Range Conducting Officers or other trusted Full Members.

We provide supervision across multiple disciplines, ensuring members develop both confidence and capability in a supportive environment.

Transparent and Affordable

The probationary course fee is currently £20, covering the cost of the NRA Probationary Training Manual and postage. There are no hidden charges - just structured, professionally delivered training, currently at premises in the IP23 area.

If you are seeking a club that takes safety, development, and progression seriously, we would be pleased to welcome you.

We don't just talk about training - we deliver it, regularly and professionally.
