Overview
Practical Shotgun is a high-tempo discipline that tests accuracy, speed, and decision-making through challenging courses of fire, using shotgun, usually being 12 gauge. Stages require safe gun handling, efficient movement, and rapid target engagement.
Usually held on the last Sunday of the month, January to October
One-to-one supervision is provided for each shooter while actively firing.

Booking & Eligibility Requirements
Pre-registration is mandatory for all Club events via the Club’s cloud-based booking system, Range-Mate.
- Grove Small Arms Club members only
- Valid FAC and in-date club membership card must be brought by members
- No guests permitted
- External PSG membership is not required
- Shooters who have not completed a PSG Safety Course must contact the Range Officer in advance
- 14 years of age and over only
Dates & Times
- Shoots usually take place from March to October, but may be cancelled, for safety reasons, due to inclement weather, this being a dynamic outside sport
- Arrive 09:00–09:30 to assist with set up and to register on the range log by 09:45
- Sessions start at 10:00 and last up to 6 hours
- Arrivals after 09:45 will shoot from the second detail only
- Arrivals after 10:00 require Range Officer approval
- Range Fees: £10
Firearms & Ammunition
- Section 1 & 2 firearms.
- Section 1 firearms must be on the member's FAC and may not be loaned, shared
- Section 2 shotguns may be made available to Club members by prior arrangement
- Section 2 shotguns may be shared
- Approx. 100–150 cartridges per session
- Fibre wad pellet ammunition only
- Slug ammunition is strictly prohibited
Facilities & Notes
- No camouflage or military-style clothing
- Hearing protection advised; eye protection mandatory
