ABOUT STANTA
The Stanford Training Area, to give it its full name, is an MoD complex of ranges and training areas, operated and maintained on behalf of the MoD by Landmarc Solutions.

A number of ranges on STANTA are periodically made available to civilian gun clubs. These include: Great Carr, Archers and Robin's Lodge and Curlew. Each is slightly different.

GREAT CARR
An electronic Target Range (ETR) with figure-11 targets out to 800 yards.
Muzzle energy limit: 4,500 joules.

ARCHERS
A different ETR setup with targets out to 800 yards and with mockup window and door-type openings to shoot from/over.
Muzzle energy limit: 4,500 joules.

ROBIN'S LODGE
An extensive ETR range going from 150-800 yards. We can shoot prone/seated or from the special dugouts on the firing point.
Muzzle energy limit: 7,000 joules.

CURLEW
No details currently available for this range.
Muzzle energy limit: TBC

These are outdoor military ranges, so there are no clubhouses, toilets etc.

HOW TO GET THERE
Assemble no later than 8.15 a.m. just off the A134, at the turning for the Lynford Stag picnic area (MAP).
At 08.30, we then drive in convoy onto the Battle Area and assemble for range briefing, ready to start shooting at 10.00 a.m.
You may leave STANTA alone but do not attempt to drive onto it if you miss the convoy.
Our shoots on STANTA end at 4.00 p.m, although many finish before that time. .

DATES & TIMES
Shoots dates are offered ad hoc throughout the year and added to the calendar as we go along. Military training takes precedence over civilian shoots and so dates may change at very short notice. Please check the club hotline before setting out! See calendar.
Range fee: £15.

WHAT YOU CAN USE
There is a civilian muzzle energy limit of 4,500 joules on Great Carr and Archer's. Generally, this means the more common centrefire cartridges, plus rimfires and LBRs/LBPs will all be OK. On Robin's Lodge, the limit is 7,000 joules, which provides for some the more pokey calibres. Handloads are permitted but is your responsibility to know what level of energy your ammunition produces.

PLEASE NOTE
YOU MUST BRING YOUR FAC, SCC CARD AND CLUB MEMBERSHIP CARD TO THIS SHOOT.
MOD shoots are subject to spot-checks by the range controller and you will not be allowed to shoot without these documents!

NO GUESTS ON STANTA RANGES. GROVE OR OTHER LICENSED CLUB MEMBERS ONLY.

HEALTH NOTE
STANTA is home to all manner of wildlife including ticks. Tick bites can carry infections, such as Lyme disease. The best protection from tick bites is to be sure that your extremities (especially the ankles) remain covered when shooting on STANTA, especially if nature's call means wading into the long grass!
